PARLIAMENTARY AGRIC COMMITTEE INSPECTS AFRAM PLAINS PROJECTS, URGES TIMELY FUNDING RELEASE

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs, has conducted a working visit to some agricultural developments projects across the Kwahu Afram Plains South District to assess contractor progress and project viability.

The  committee led by its chairman Hon. Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, inspected key infrastructure including the Farmer Services Centre at Tokoratwene, as well as two commercial agricultural sites: the 900-hectare Konadu Farm and the 250-hectare Ekye Farm.

Speaking during the inspection of the Tokoratwene Farmer Services Centre, Hon. Jasaw commended B5 Plus Limited for its work and active public-private partnership with the government in constructing facilities across ten communities. He highlighted that the Farmer Services Centre initiative represents a major flagship government policy, with plans to roll out 275 such hubs nationwide.

"As part of our oversight responsibilities, the committee deemed it essential to visit these sites to ensure value for money as government funds are expended across the country," Hon. Jasaw stated. He emphasized that once operational, the centers will drive agricultural transformation by supplying smallholder farmers with essential modern machinery and inputs.

To ensure the project stays on schedule, the Chairman appealed directly to the Ministry of Finance to release necessary funds promptly, allowing contractors to hit the targeted completion date of December 31, 2026.

Reinforcing the call for speed, the Ranking Member of the Committee, Hon. Yaw Isaac Opoku, urged the contractor to maintain momentum so the facility can become fully operational in the coming months.

The committee concluded its tour at the 900-hectare Konadu Farm, where members expressed satisfaction with the pace of development. Project managers briefed  Members on  key operational hurdles, revealing that construction is currently 99 percent complete and well on track to meet its final deadline.
