The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) guideline is aligned with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommendation and are applicable to all businesses in the storage and distribution of medical products. According to the Health Minister FDA as mandated by the Public Health Act of 2012, Act 851 has established guidelines on licensing of medical products storage facilities, stressing that these guidelines are designed to ensure the safety, quality and efficacy performance of medical products. Hon. Akandoh made this known on the floor of the House when the MP for Offinso North, Hon. Fred Kyei Asamoah asked him about the steps his Ministry is taking to ensure compliance with WHO’s good storage and distribution practices of pharmaceutical and other health products. He indicated that the FDA has conducted a continuous training of pharmacists, supply chain managers, warehouse staff and logistics officers on WHO good storage and distribution practices to enhance the capacity of personnel. Hon. Akandoh assured the House that these activities will collectively support a resilient, transparent and efficient health supply chain, which is capable of delivering quality assured medical products to all levels of the healthcare system in Ghana.
