The Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Science, and Technology has concluded its two-day working visit to assess electronic waste (e-waste) facilities with a call for stronger coordination between government and key stakeholders to enhance waste management practices across Ghana. The Committee undertook field visits to assess e-waste handling and disposal systems, beginning with the Green Ad Ghana E-Waste Collection Centre at Agbogbloshie. The Managing Director of Green Ad Ghana, Yaw Osei, assured the delegation that workers are provided with comprehensive awareness training and guidance on safe handling procedures to mitigate health risks associated with e-waste. The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kwame Frimpong Addo, emphasised that oversight remains the Committee’s primary constitutional duty. “The safe handling and disposal of these materials is an issue the Committee takes very seriously,” he stated. The Committee also visited the Caritas Collection Centre at Ashaiman to assess compliance with e-waste regulations and evaluate the facility’s operational standards. The tour forms part of Parliament’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental oversight and ensure that Ghana’s waste management systems align with national and international standards.
