The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has paid a familiarization visit to the W. E. B. Du Bois Museum Foundation to learn more about the development of the centre and the legacy of Pan-Africanism. During the visit, he inspected the memorial home, exhibits, writings, and personal works of William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, gaining insight into the life and contributions of the renowned Pan-Africanist and intellectual.
The Speaker described the visit as nostalgic and inspiring, noting that Du Bois’ ideas marked the beginning of Africa’s intellectual and liberation journey. He urged the public to visit and support the museum to preserve African identity, culture, and history, and pledged support toward sustaining the project.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Foundation, Mr. Japhet Aryiku, appealed for assistance to build a new museum and library to showcase Du Bois’ global impact, estimating US$60 million to support the project, which will include facilities for scholars and a new tomb to honour Du Bois and his wife.
