Hon. Ambrose Dery

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery says an amount of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH 100,000.00) has been paid to the Ministry of the Interior as compensation to about Two Thousand (2,000) people who survived a gas explosion that occurred at Paebo in the Nsawam  Adoagyiri Municipality two years ago.

Hon. Ambrose Dery was answering questions by the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh on the plans underway to ensure that compensation payments are made to victims of the Paebo explosion.

The Interior Minister agreed that the compensation amount is woefully inadequate and pledged government’s preparedness to hold further negotiation talks with the management of the AKY Mining Services Limited for an enhanced compensation package to the victims.

It will be recalled that the 24th of December, 2015, there was a heavy explosion on the site as a result of a blast from a quarry site belonging to AKY Mining Services Limited. This occurred as a result of a naked fire getting into contact with ammonium dynamite.

Many people were injured in the devastation with one person, 38-year-old welder, Ibrahim Mohammed dying.
