Hon Stanley Yaw Nandaya
Wulensi
Thank you, Mr Speaker. I am grateful for this great opportunity.
Mr Speaker, I would crave your indulgence that I make one Statement under Order 63 so I could explain that to my constituents in one sentence please. This incident is the tragic clash between the people of Namani and Jatordo over a parcel of land.
Mr Speaker, I rise today to address a grave situation that recently unfolded in my Constituency, Wulensi, where a tragic clash occurred on the 17th of March, 2025 between the people of Namani and Jatordo over a parcel of land. This unfortunate conflict has resulted in the loss of four precious lives, a situation that no community should ever have to endure.
Mr Speaker, upon hearing this distress news, I immediately called the Wulensi District Commander to ascertain facts on the ground. I had a meeting with the Minister for the Interior and he also contacted the Inspector General of Police to discuss the urgent need for security measures in the affected areas. I also reached out to the Northern Regional Command of the Armed Forces, the Regional Minister and the Regional Security Coordinator, to ensure that adequate security personnel were deployed to resolve peace and order.
A few days later, I returned to my Constituency to engage directly with the feuding factions. During this meeting, I emphasised the importance of resolving our differences without resorting to violence or the use of firearms and encouraged them to resort to the police or any further arrangement that could resolve and solve the issues. I urged my constituents to seek redress through legal channels rather than through conflict.
Mr Speaker, I want to remind this House and the people of Wulensi that our Constituency is the largest producer of yam in Northern Ghana. The President of the Republic has assured us of significant developments, including the construction of a yam market, an additional secondary school in Lungi, and essential infrastructure such as roads and water supply. These promises are a testament to the Government’s commitment to our growth and prosperity.
Mr Speaker, I implored the people of Namani and Jatordo to let peace reign. Let us not allow temporary disputes to overshadow our collective progress. I urge all parties involved to come together, prioritise dialogue, and work towards a harmonious resolution. In conclusion, I call upon the Government and all stakeholders to support peacebuilding initiatives in our Constituency. Together we can ensure that Wulensi remains a beacon of unity and development in Northern Ghana.
Thank you, Mr Speaker. Mr Speaker, I use this sentence in my language and I will express it in English.
