ROADS AND HIGHWAYS MINISTER ANSWERS QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT

The Minister for Roads and Highways Hon. Joe Giddisu said works on the Ayinanasuso-Suponso-Betiako-Abonsuaso-Danyame road will commence in 2011. Engineering works is expected to be carried on the remaining works on completion of the first phase.

He was responding to questions posed to him by the MP for Ahafo-Ano North, Hon. Richard Akuoko Adiyia who sought to know from the Minister when the Ayinanasuso-Suponso-Betiako-Abonsuaso-Danyame road will be graveled and tarred.

The Minister explained that the delay in the construction of these roads was due to non-performance of the contractor, and resulted in the termination of his contract in June 2009.

He assured the House that based on the availability of funds; the work will be executed in 2011.

The MP for Kwabre East, Hon. Kofi Frimpong, sought to know from the Minister measures his Ministry was putting in place to forestall the frequent knock downs of pedestrians on the Asonomaso Nkwanta- Fawade Ahwiaa Stretch of the Kumasi-Asante Mampong main road.

Hon. Joe Giddisu in responded that as part of his Ministry programme to ensure safety, the Ghana Highway Authority has designed new traffic calming schemes which comprise of speed tables, jiggle bars, road marking and signs to be constructed in settlements along the trunks.

He added the Ghana Highway Authority has received tenders from prospective bidders for the construction of additional traffic calming schemes in settlements along the road. The tenders are at the evaluation stage and construction works is expected to commence by the end of the first quarter of the year.
