PARLIAMENT SALUTES BLACK STARS
06/07/10 Parliament today congratulated the Ghana Black Stars for their outstanding performance at the ongoing world cup. The Black Stars made history by being the 3rd and only African country to reach the quarter finals in the ongoing 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The MP for Suaman and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Stephen E. K. Ackah who presented a statement in the House, praised the Stars for their gallantry and outstanding performance and the resultant international recognition the country and the entire African continent is enjoying currently.
He said though the Stars defeat to Uruguay inflicted so much pain in the hearts of Ghanaians, they are still proud of them and ready to rally behind them.
The MP for Amansie West, Hon. Grace Addo who contributed to the statement, lauded the efforts of the Stars at bringing honour to the country and the continent as a whole. She nonetheless, asked for similar support to the female national team, the Black Queens during their World Cup tournament in Germany.
The MP for Garu /Tempane, Hon. Dominic Azumah, who took part in the debates, cautioned FIFA to uphold its rules so as to prevent cheating on the field of play. He said FIFA should have accepted the goal which was cruelly obstructed by the Uruguan player asking that players who flout such rules be punished in future.
The MP for Lawra/Nandom, Hon. Patrick Ambrose Dery who also joined the debates, intimated that only Ghana, Brazil and Germany shone in the tournament.
He however pleaded with the GFA to maintain the current team while replacing old players with new ones to strengthened the team for future tournaments.
