PARLIAMENT HOSTS BLACK STARS
08/07/10 Parliament today hosts players and officials of the National Soccer Team, Black Stars to a reception few days after their return from South Africa where they put up a splendid performance in the ongoing 2010 FIFA World Cup Tournament.
Rt. Hon. Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, Speaker of Parliament welcomed the Players, the technical team and the officials of the Ghana Football Association, commending them for their efforts and success at the tournament in South Africa. She also gave the team members and GFA Officials, gifts.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Akua Sena Dansua also commended the Stars for their impressive performance.
Hon. Akua Sena Dansua applauded the gallant stars for distinguishing themselves not only as representatives of Ghana, but also for the entire African Continent.
She however expressed disappointment at the referee’s poor officiating in Ghana’s last match between Uruguay which caused our premature exit from the tournament.
She further thanked the Government, corporate bodies, religious organizations as well as individuals including every African for their overwhelming support for the team and the country during the tournament.
She also commended the former President of South Africa, Nelson Madiba Mandela and Mrs. Winnie Mandela for hosting the Stars in their homes.
The Minister further applauded the unity Ghanaians demonstrated during the period of the tournament and the image built for Ghana across the World, saying, the spate at which businesses picked up in the country at the time cannot be overemphasized.
The Minority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, in a poetic manner welcomed the Stars to the House and commended them for their gallantry and splendid show.
He also thanked the coach and his assistant, the entire technical crew, Ghana Football Association, the Government and the People of Ghana as well as the South African Government for a well organized tournament which he noted, contributed to the success of the event.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Cletus Avoka also commended the Stars for their efforts but cautioned the players to avoid complacency.
He however expressed confidence in the players, wishing them God’s mercies, favour and protection from injury and ill health especially those who are yet to secured membership contracts with football clubs.
