Minority leader and MP for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.

Speaker Bagbin Refers Minority Leader To Privileges Committee The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has referred the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges and Immunities Committee for acting contrary to adopted resolution of Parliament. “Having reviewed the complaint, the Standing Orders and the governing principles, I am satisfied that the matter raised prima facie and implicates the dignity, and the institutional integrity of this House. Pursuant to Order 34(1), I therefore refer the complaint lodged by the Hon. Member for Bawku Central and Majority Leader to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities for examination, inquiry, investigation and report to the House”. He stated. It would be recalled that on Tuesday, 11th November 2025, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and the Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga made a formal complaint against the Minority Leader and alleged that he engaged in a conduct which if substantiated may constitute contempt of Parliament and a breach of Parliamentary privilege, pursuant to Orders 30 and 31 of the Standing Orders. According to Hon. Ayariga, Hon. Afenyo Markin attended a session of the ECOWAS Parliament in contravention of a duly adopted resolution of the House, which excluded his name from Ghana’s delegation to the Sub-Regional Parliament.
