NEW NADMO LAWS TO ADDRESS FUNDING.
The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO is to establish a new law to address the issue of funding, preventing and managing disaster. The Minister of Interior, Cletus Avoka revealed this information during answers to questions in Parliament. He said however that the existing NADMO laws will not be amended.
Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah, MP for Asunafo North asked the Interior Minister, what pragmatic measures has NADMO put in place to prevent floods in Accra to which the Minister responded that the decision to demolish some unauthorized structures especially those found on water ways, is to allow the easy flow of water whenever it rained.
He also lamented on NADMO’s limited facilities and resources when asked by the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare what efforts NADMO is making to de-silt gutters, especially around East Legon. The Interior Minister however added that de-silting gutters is not part of the mandate of NADMO and therefore suggested that the issue be directed to the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda, MP for Offinso South asked the Minister for Interior, steps his outfit is taking to resolve the critical accommodation problems of the Police Service.
The Minister admitted the huge accommodation problem facing the Police Service and said that the Service has taken a short term measure to provide rented accommodation for the police personnel. He nonetheless appealed to MPs and District Assemblies to assist in providing accommodation for the Police.
The Deputy Information Minister, Mr. James Agyening-Boateng was also in Parliament to answer questions relating to Ghana Television’s poor reception in Techiman and environs. He assured the House that efforts have been made to resolve the problem.
