ENCROACHERS TAKE OVER MILITARY LANDS
05/07/10 The Minister for Defence, Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith said today in Parliament that encroachers have taken over military lands acquired at Nkaakom in the Atwima Nwabiagya District for farming and erecting permanent structures.
He was answering a question posed by Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio, MP for Atwima Nwabiagya who sought to know from the Minister the current state of military lands acquired at Nkaakom in Atwima Nwabiagya District, and when compensations will be paid to land owners.
He explained that the lands were acquired by government with the intention to construct barracks for an infantry battalion in the area.
He further added that the parcel of land cuts across the fringes of Nkaakom village but the occupants of Nkaakom stool hold an erroneous view that it does not include the sections within their village.
The Minister stressed on the fact that compensations will only be paid after certain processes have been completed
