EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON FIRE PREVENTION—MP CHARGES NCCE

The MP for Akropong, Hon. William Ofori Boafo has called on the National Commission on Civic Education and all stakeholders to educate the public especially school children on fire prevention and firefighting measures. He was contributing to a statement laid in Parliament by the MP for Ashaiman, Hon. Alfred Agbesi on the increasing rate of fire outbreaks in the country recently.

Hon. William Ofori Boafo also urged Government to properly equip the Ghana National Fire Service to better handle fires adding that the public should equally be informed of the outcome of investigations of fire outbreaks to prevent future occurrence.

The MP for Atwima-Mponua, Hon. Isaac Asiamah, who also contributed to the statement, said enforcing safety measures in public places is important especially in night clubs where exit points hardly foster easy evacuation of people in the event of fire outbreaks.

He cautioned however that prolonged use of electrical installations and wiring can cause fire outbreaks.

The most recent devastating fire outbreak occurred at the Tema Oil Refinery, TOR, the Nation’s largest refinery, resulting in huge assets and financial loss to the state.

Sitting resumes on Tuesday.
