CABINET RESHUFFLE GENERATES ARGUMENTS INPARLIAMENT

Following the President’s recent Cabinet reshuffle, some arguments were raised on the floor of the House when Hon. Albert Abongo appeared before the House to answer questions relating to the Water Resources, Works and Housing Ministry. The MP for Sekondi, Hon. Papa Owusu-Ankomah raised an objection to Hon. Albert Abongo appearing before the House to answer questions relating to that Ministry because, in his view, he has been reshuffled.

He argued that the Minister should have resigned his position after the President communicated his reshuffle to Parliament.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Alban Bagbin intervened, explaining that Hon. Abongo ceases to be the Minister for the said Ministry only after the instrument conferring his appointment by the President is reversed. He stressed, a designated Minster can only take over a Ministry after the same instrument of appointment is conferred to him by the President.
Madam Speaker subsequently ruled for Hon. Albert Abongo to respond to the questions on the floor while referring the matter to Leadership for consideration and report.

Sitting resumes tomorrow.
